Author
Mateo Kries joined the Vitra in 1995. Design Museum, first as curator and then as director of the museum's Berlin branch. In 2001 he co-founded the DESIGNMAI festival in Berlin, in 2006 he became chief curator of the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein and has been the museum's director since 2011. During his time at the Vitra Design Museum, Kries was responsible for numerous acclaimed projects, including exhibitions on the Bauhaus, African design and personalities such as Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto and many others. In 2010, Kries published the book Total Design, a critical analysis of the ubiquity of design as a contemporary practice. With more than twenty-five years of experience, Mateo Kries is considered one of the most influential curators and publishers in the contemporary design world.
