Dear Future is a visual document about a young generation seeking the freedom to be who and how they want to be.
During covid lockdowns, documentary photographer Zahra Reijs met Uzi/Xyanty in museumpark, Rotterdam. She and her friends showed Zahra a sense of freedom in their way of dressing and being that the photographer wishes she had known when she was growing up. Little did Reijs know that this brief encounter would form the core inspiration for her first photo book, "Dear Future.
Dear Future is a book about a young generation, usually referred to as "Gen Z. The people in the book are, in a sense, freedom fighters. They are fighting for their freedom to be who they want to be, which manifests itself in many forms and expressions. Each his own.'
