'Hey hot chick! You yeah!", with a smile on his face and camera lens in front of his eye, Ed van der Elsken walks up to the lady. He clicks. He whistles. The panther-print-clad woman smiles. "Go on!" shouts Ed. Her confidence grows and proudly she puts one leg in front of the other. She enjoys. Ed enjoys. It is these everyday moments captured by Ed Van der Elsken.

Photographer and filmmaker Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990) gained world fame for his black-and-white urban photography. For much of his working life, however, he also worked in color. He began doing so in the early 1950s while living in Paris. In fact, in the second half of the 1960s he switched almost entirely to color. His most important books in color are Eye Love You, Hello! A New Ed van der Elsken and the comprehensive survey; Lust for Life.
